Off Road History Museum, Madam

The private collection of Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi includes more than 350 vehicles. The exhibition shows how off-road vehicles have changed over the years.

You can see standard-spec vehicles, custom-built and highly modified ones of all different types and ages and even some very old cycles.

Apart from the personal off-road cars, there is a whole section of army vehicles and another with trucks and fire trucks and even a snow plough and some amphibious vehicles. Many older models go back to the 1940s, at least one from the 1910s.

The Off-Road Museum is inside three large warehouses in Al Madam and on the main road with plenty of parking spaces and is a must-visit for off-road vehicle fans.

The first section is air-conditioned but the other two weren’t during my visit. (They may be on busier days.) It was still doable, though, and it shouldn’t be an issue in winter.

Look out for the enormous red Jeep right out front with a tiny one (or so it seems) underneath. There’s also a massive white Hummer next to it.

Once you’ve finished your tour of the Off-Road History Museum, you might want to head to the Deer Cafe right outside.

I’d plan around 1-2 hours, depending on your level of interest in cars and then you could do something else in the area. Check below for suggestions.
