Ten years after being closed to the public, Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre has made it possible for visitors to visit the mangroves once again. The area is still restricted and you can only go within the centre area.
As everything by EPAA Shj and Sharjah, the education centre is very well done and extremely informative and if you like, a guide will give you a tour.
Inside the centre you can see crabs, sea cucumbers, starfish, various crustaceans, sea urchins and more.
Outside, there are turtle pools with a few turtles. They are not kept in captivity, but are checked and released back.
Apart from the mangrove trail, there is an aviary and a kingfisher aviary and hides to watch birds. On the mangrove trail, look out for kingfisher nests in holes in the trees. Some of the mangroves are more than 300 years old!
We had a really lovely and fascinating morning at the Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre and thanks to the lovely local guides who gave us a tour and explained everything.
