The Rain Room
If you are tired of the heat, visiting The Rain Room in Sharjah might cool you down for a few minutes. Don’t worry, you won’t get wet!
The Rain Room is a permanent art installation by Random International and opened in 2018. It is in an underground room with motion sensors, so it doesn’t rain on you even though ‘pouring rain’ surrounds you. It makes for some creative silhouette photo opportunities.
In the words of Random International, “Upon entering the installation, visitors are simultaneously exposed to and protected from the water falling all around. Although the sound and smell of the rain are intense, its touch remains absent leaving visitors dry within a continual downpour as they navigate the space.’
You need to walk slowly, so toddlers running around isn’t a good idea unless you don’t mind them getting soaked. Also, as a steel grate is on the ground, avoid wearing stiletto heels.
Booking in advance is recommended during holidays and peak times, but you can also turn up and try your luck. The session lasts ten to fifteen minutes and six people go in at one time. You can book online at Sharjah Art Foundation.
Finally, there’s a Fen coffee shop on the ground floor where you can have a coffee while waiting or have lunch afterwards.
